In a tiny, hidden corner of The Lakes by yoo lies a place where you might hear the distant sounds of children collectively laughing, shooting DIY rockets or the drum beats of our School of Rock.
Getting here is exciting in itself. You may think you’re lost as you walk or cycle down a long back-road track, but a friendly welcome awaits. Our cosy Bird Hide is home to our adventurous and busy schedule of children’s activities. Set in a lovely wood cabin we have a wood burner for cooler days and shady trees and woodland for when the temperatures rise. With stunning views across Bowmoor Lake, this really does make for a Swallows and Amazons style setting and the children immediately love exploring with one of our many Bug Catchers.
Here we host everything imaginable from science workshops, bush craft, planting, felting and craft activities, pizza making, pop-up cinema nights and archery to name a few.
Whilst we like to keep our children busy we also allow for our plans to go off-piste to making this a child-led club that tailors to the children’s needs and adapting environment. We also have books, Lego, cards, games and sporting equipment on hand for our little people to turn to and many a friendship has been made over a game of the ever-popular Swing Ball.
Our recent Easter Camp was a testament to how popular these activity sessions are. A packed Dart Tag morning was idyllic on our first hot spring day, a meander through the new arboretum to our Telling Tree was magical with stories from our head gardener and our River Shack Ramble, which involves fire-starting and marshmallow roasting, is always a hit! Easter Camp had it all and more.
We host club sessions throughout all of the school holidays as well as two week-long summer camps. These are held in our beautiful meadow which allows for broader sporting activities. We’ve had everything from movie-making, a jungle roadshow, peddle-power art, junk music-making, puppetry, circus workshops, weaving, clay art, bouncy castles, go-karting, break-dancing, DJ workshops and the list continues…
Our camps are famous here at The Lakes. Not only is it a time where your children are entertained from morning to night, it’s a time when you can also have some adult space. Whilst your little people are independently flexing their social muscles you can enjoy some R&R or a Spa Retreat with the safe knowledge that they’re having an absolute ball!
It’s easy for the children to safely lose ‘themselves’ in this setting, it’s easy for them to run wild with their imaginations building dens or creating packs, it’s wonderful to see shy children heading off hand-in-hand with a new best friend and it’s wonderful to be a part of their memory making.
Our Kid’s Club is open to all children age 4 plus. Younger children may attend with an adult.
If our activities do not coincide with your schedule then we are happy to arrange a tailor-made session specifically for you. Fishing lessons, clay pigeon shoots, cycling and Zip-wire are also available through concierge.
